Bathtub liners compared to bathtub refinishing
Cost:
Though there are some savings when you compare replacing a tub to installing a new liner, liners are still much more expensive than refinishing. The price of liners (installed) range between $800 to over $1000 compared to about $450 for refinishing.
Bathtub liners and time:
Liners take weeks to be installed while refinishing takes only a few hours to refinish and ready for use within 48 hours. The reason why tub liners are very expensive when compared to refinishing is that bathtub liners are custom installed. That means that no two liners are the same. The sales person has to get the exact measurement for your liner, sends out the information to the company that would mold it.
Finally the home owner receives the liners and after about 3 to 6 weeks, the liners are finally installed.
Bathtub liners and trapped water:
Because of the thickness of the bathtub liners, there is always the great possibility that water gets trapped between the liner and the bathtub, thereby causing mold and mildew growth.
Bath liners' hollow feeling:
Liners may feel like you are walking on a sponge because of the water that is trapped between the old tub and the new liner.
Tubs are not as big as they used to be a tub liner is installed:
Because you are adding a thick material on top of your old tub, it makes the tub smaller.
Bathtub liners also come in a limited number of colors:
This means that you are limited to the number of colors you can use for your decoration.
